How does a 3-wire CCT (tunable white) COB strip work for dimming and color temperature?
A 3-wire CCT strip typically uses one common positive (V+) + two negative channels (WW- / CW-): one channel for Warm White, the other for Cool White. With a CCT controller (dual-channel output) or two-channel PWM dimmer, you control the two channels separately to blend smoothly across the CCT range (e.g., 2700K–6500K), while also adjusting brightness. In other words: channel mixing sets the color temperature, and PWM level sets the brightness.
Can I use a normal single-channel dimmer? What happens if I do?
If you use a single-channel dimmer/driver, you can usually reduce brightness, but true CCT control is limited—you may be stuck at one mixed CCT, or you can only switch on one channel (pure warm or pure cool). For real tunable white + dimming, we recommend a dedicated CCT controller (two-channel output) for smoother transitions and more stable dimming.
What are the most common installation mistakes, and how do I avoid flicker or uneven brightness?
The most common issues come from controller/power mismatch, voltage drop from thin wires, or single-end feeding over long runs, which can cause front-bright/back-dim. To avoid this: • Size the power supply with headroom (typically 1.2–1.3× the maximum load). • Use thicker cables for longer runs, and consider dual-end feeding or segmented feeding when needed. • Choose a controller that supports dual-channel PWM and matches your voltage (12V/24V) to reduce flicker and improve consistency.
